How do Minecraft capes work?
A cape is a cosmetic that hangs off your skin's back. Official capes are tied to one Minecraft account and cannot be moved to another account. So you either redeem a cape code on your own account or buy an account that already has the cape.
Two terms you will see a lot:
- Cape code: A 25-character code you redeem on your own Microsoft or Minecraft account. The cape then stays on your account for good.
- Cape account: A whole Minecraft account that already has the cape. You buy the account, not just the cape. At 4D4P Shop these are Full Access, meaning you get the login and linked email so you can change the password, username and skin.
Third-party capes, like OptiFine capes, are different. Only players using that mod or client can see them. 4D4P Shop lists an OptiFine cape at $1.00.

Notice the Purple Heart gap. The code costs $8.00, while a full account with the cape was listed at $14.00. With a code, you put the cape on the account you already own.
Which Minecraft capes are the rarest?
The rarest capes in Minecraft are ones you could only get in person or for a short time. In the 4D4P list, the Minecraft Experience cape is the rarest, because it went to people who attended a live event that opened in October 2024. That is why it costs $60, the highest cape price in the table.
Rarity usually follows three rules:
- Event-only capes are the rarest. You had to be there. The Experience cape is the clearest example.
- Short promo capes come next. Capes like Founder's and Follower's were only open for a limited window.
- Mass giveaways are the most common. Capes like Migrator went to huge numbers of players, so prices stay low.
Outside this list, the hardest capes to find are the MINECON capes given to convention attendees and capes made for Mojang staff. These almost never come up for sale, so 4D4P Shop does not list them.
Why do some capes cost more than others?
Price comes from supply and demand. Fewer accounts with the cape plus more players wanting it equals a higher price. Ban status, extra capes and account age can also push the price up.
Things that change the price of a cape account:
- How many exist. The Migrator cape had a huge release, so it starts at $9.50. The Experience cape did not, so it costs $60.
- Ban status. Accounts that can join Hypixel and DonutSMP usually cost more than banned ones.
- Extra capes. An account with several capes is worth more than one with a single cape.
- Account age. Older accounts are collectible on their own.
- Stock. When only one is left, the next restock may cost more.
What about multi-cape and old accounts?
Multi-cape accounts bundle several capes on one account, and old "creation date" accounts are valued for when they were made. Both cost more than a basic alt.
